plucka Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I got this game 2 weeks ago and in that time I've almost worked my way up to Lt Commander and will soon buy a Cerberus (GB nation). I've been doing the missions and while I enjoy the game I really can't be bothered doing any more missions, the combat is fun but the missions are repetitive and pointless beyond grinding gold and xp. The 1vs1 or 1 vs 2 is boring and want to be part of larger battles. The question is how does a casual player in a Cerberus go about this? Do I need to join a clan? Being a casual (few hours a week) player is this feasible (being in Australia time zone doesn't help either). Can I take part in Port Battles or is my ship/rank too low to be of any use? Even so how I am supposed to get to a port battle when I get notified that most of the time it's hours of sailing away? I've mostly been sailing around Jamaica - do I need to seek out the "front lines" in order to get some PvP/larger battle action, or will I just get seal clubbed in my lowly Cerberus? Just looking for advice- how are players here keeping interest in the game beyond Lt Commander rank? I really can't face any more boring mission grinding.
Capt. Rice Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Ask around if a clan or form a big group to fight AI fleets those are fun. 1
KrakkenSmacken Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I would head to a front line that has shallow port battles. The largest ship that can get into those is a Merc or Navy Brig. (See "shallow" ships here http://navalaction.wikia.com/wiki/Ships) Snows are good too, so if you can build a Cerb you can build one of those. Port battles are 25 ships, and in every one I have have been in (5), at least one or two people dragged in Basic Cutters. Nobody (reasonable) will say boo about a snow, just don't bring in AI.
Warrax Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Hello Plucka I have two suggestion: a general and a specific one. General - for anyone with this same question, i suggest you join a clan, then pose your question in clan chat. If you get no response or a poor one, then you are in the wrong clan. Specific one - since you are a Brit, Plucka, i urge you to contact me in game. I am not suggesting i have any "answers" for you in terms of how you should play "your game". Instead, One thing i may share when you contact me, is how i play "my" game. Cheers Have fun Warrax
Prater Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 To get the most out of naval action, you need to join a clan, and you need to pvp. The community of your clan will keep you coming back, if you are in the right clan anyway. The pvp is addicting. AI is boring. 2
Jeheil Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 I would recommend joining a clan. For me I think it opens up a bunch of stuff, that yes you can do solo, but in a clan it is part of their repertoire (typically).
The MetaBaron Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Join a clan, you dont have to be on every day or be super high rank to be a part of one.
Kleinburger Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Join a clan and pvp. The community you play with will be what keeps you in the game.
Long Beard Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Yep, I echo what others have said. For me it's all about clan. Even doing missions in a clan is a lot of fun if the clan use team speak and have good witty banter. There's also much more to do in a clan if you're all working together, helping each other out, supporting the crafters, running to their aid in battles etc. Just make sure you find one that fits. The XP jump from your current rank does feel like a long way away, and if you try to progress via solo missions you'll defo get bored. In a clan you can take on tougher missions together and get faster XP. Then of course there's the XP you get in PVP . I also found the desire to 'get the next big ship' diminishes when you're in a clan. Cerb is absolutely fine when you have 4 or 5 clan mates sailing by your side.Good luck.
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Make up a "storyline" for your captain. Ignore and bypass any urge to power game. Take each sortie as a "chapter" of that story. You could go circum venting the map, establish new outposts in strategic regions, have a taste of the varied geography, fight other players that dare to intercept you ( make sure you use something else than a free ship aka. no power gaming allowed ). There is a lot of space for imaginative activities other than - missions, missions, trade hunt, trade hunt, craft craft, get bigger ship get bigger ship uurrrrrrrr - but to each its own. A game like NA is a lot about the History and playing a character, a ship, a nation... Salute. 2
Mrdoomed Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Ive only ever did a few missions to just get feel for game. Since then ive done pvp or hunting ai enemy ships . I find pvp and the fear of a player jumping ne while im in ai battle exiting and fun.
surfimp Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Establish an outpost at a free port deep in enemy territory. Hunt player traders. Dodge gankers. You won't get bored.
