502bull Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 What is the most effective way to grape a crew down quickly and efficiently?
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Lots of good tips http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/7654-is-grapeshot-effect-out-of-the-realm-of-any-reality/
Capt. Rice Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Stern, gun-ports, over the top raking ...as the grape shot goes through it has a higher chance to hit more targets. this what ive seen....
Tomms123 Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Depends on the ships. If its a ship smallen then a snow/merc aim for the sailors on deck. If its like a cerberus and up remove the rear or front (recommend rear due to the point of travel) and and unload grape into the place and hope for the best. Then you most of the times kill more crew as the projectile travel down the ship rather then into the side (more chance to hit the crew).

Long Beard Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Heh Heh, I have a love hate relation ship with grape. Sometime I marvel at how quickly I've taken down their crew with a few well placed volleys, then watch in despair when the same aim spot yields no results. Cutter vs Cutter, I took a player down to 4 crew in a matter of minutes. Do you think I could take out those last 4? He managed to set me on fire with a lucky shot and I burned and sank lol. Thanks for posting that link guys, I will read with interest. 1
Tindahbawx Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Cross their rear perpendicular to them, guns set to rolling front fire, locked sector focus. Fire broadside when the edge of the reticule for the first gun aligns with the back edge of their ship, not centre, as theres a slight delay before it shoots. As you pass along behind them, in theory your guns will more or less shoot as they cross the rear of the enemy ship, you can get ridiculous amounts of crew kills when you get it right (although it depends on speed and ship), but at the same time you can of course time it all wrong and miss most of the salvo, but thats Naval Action for ya! Also as you go up in ship size you need to remember that there is multiple decks of crew, so you need to do High, middle and low shots to get the majority of them.... if you aim dead center all the time, you'll just wipe out their middle deck of crew, but never hit the higher ones or the ones low down in the ship. 1
Admiral 8Q Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 (edited) Tindahbawx is right. The game mechanics are that precise. It's not just "hit points". You actually have to target different parts of the target ship to be effective. I've done a full broadside grape shot at close range with carronades and not kill a single crew. Irritating, but realistic. Have to aim at different parts of the ship. Edited March 4, 2016 by Admiral 8Q
