Another cutter-captain perspective. This is the kind of review that really doesn't tell people anything about whether or not they are going to have fun with this game, because it doesn't even begin to touch on the core sensibilities you have to have in order to enjoy what you currently get. The whole aspect of continuous upkeep to feed the moloch of a never-ending war, not being able to level or customize into anything unique or different from other players, having basically no player driven content outside of clan wars, and all those sorts of things are simply not readily apparent if all you're doing is going through the first few hours of riding around in the basic cutter. Those are the kinds of things that have the biggest impact on whether someone enjoys the game long term or just finds themselves disappointed with it though.

Pretty fair artical. This game if ever finsihed will be amazing regardless if a small minority want instant clicky zones and teleport stones and there own special shiny avatar etc. I just hope they can pull off what they want and get this finished.

You can't expect a review to be made after 100 hours of gameplay. And you actually can decide if you like the game or not, after 5-10 engagements even in the cutter. The core game does not change much from there on, you get ships with more complex handling, and you need to plan your maneouvres better (especially when playing in a squadron), but the core game stays almost the same. And this guy sounds like he is willing to learn the game, and appreciates the thrill of the game and the learning curve.

Out of curiosity, what more could he have written about? Seriously.

Whether you sail a cutter or a Santissima, there is only one thing to do: sail out, find boat to fight, fight boat, either win or sink. And figure things out on your own as you go, because no tutorials and awful interface. He captured the essence of that (and even omitted the awfulness of the current interface).

If anything, he was generous. Besides letting the interface slide, he didn't mention that the crew just loops through the same animation, the hull damage model is primitive and pathetic (yo dawg, I heard you liked bullet hole decals, so I put decals on top of yo decals...), the boarding action is worse than what you had in Sid Meier's pirates, navigation is "by best guess" and open world has minimal fidelity.

Y'all should be thankful he was star-struck by the prettiness of the battle instances (an easy thing to do admittedly) and didn't really tear into it as he should have.

I would call out with everything I disagree with in this post, but let us be honest, you have already made up your mind. So the questions is, why are you even here?

Specifically to piss YOU off. Yes, you, Tennessee88. I was hired by the international cabal of secretive shadow operators to ruin your life, one forum post at a time. It may seem insignificant right now, but trust me, the wheels are in motion, and you are about to be thoroughly ruined by simultaneous precise application of top-level psyops and the finest gorilla warfare on the face of the Earth.

Why? You will never know. True terror is perfectly random and inexplicable.

Why am I telling you this? Merely to underscore the inevitability of it and your utter helplessness.

No one can escape the Spanish Inquisition Illuminati of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Mua.

Ha.

Ha.

Ha.

(And yes, this is my standard copypasta with <insert your name here> specifically written to respond to posts like yours).

I don't expect a review to be written from the perspective of 100 hours in, I'm just saying that a lot of these reviews don't even begin to touch on what the game ends up being about.
