More than a year ago. Before open Early Access I was playing a lot and was the second or third to get the Santissima.

In one of the first battles with Santi I was fighting against a Victory. Feeling proud and overconfident in my new powerful ship i came to close to Victory. I encountered an interesting bug and flipped over and sank immediately. I logged out quickly feeling a bit ashamed.

So far I've been playing NA by only sailing ships that I've either captured or crafted myself. So, when I first started off I spent (wasted?) a lot of time trying to capture Snows and Brigs with my yacht. After countless failed attempts I finally managed to barely capture a Snow. I was so damn happy it wasn't even funny. But, it was getting late, so I logged off and crawled into bed, leaving the exciting task of finally sailing a square sail ship for the next day.

After work, I hurried home, logged in, and stared at a post-battle screen. It was then that I realised that I never checked that the log-off cooldown timer completed its countdown.

Always check the cooldown timer.

Picked out an AI trader to cap, moved in and attacked. Hit tab to see his captain's rank... 'Where'd those seven frigates come from?'. Execute GTHOOH (Get the Hells out of here) maneuver, make a note to check the area around the target next time for AI fleets friendly to it.

Left port, checked which way a mission was, pointed myself northwest and went off on autopilot. Thirty minutes later, realized NE isn't the abbreviation for northwest. 'Come about! Keel haul the navigator!'.

Realized I was getting really close to ranking up, and that soon I wouldn't be able to hire anymore fleet cutters. Made a mental note to hire three more and max out my fleet as soon as I pull into port. 'Oh look! A juicy trader to snap up. Yay my luck!' Get enough exp from the cap to push me up a rank. Those two cutters served my a long time, only lost the last one yesterday.

In the midst of a 12 ship skirmish, swinging around to get a raking shot on bowless foe.....absolutely nailing it...then realising I just wiped out a decent whack of my mates crew....who had cut inside me to protect my armourless portside from a broadside....no good deed goes unpunished.

- Buying some goods at a nice price and forgetting I didn't have the hold to take it all.

- Forgot to repair after a nasty fight and entered a new fight, had to run.

- Thinking there is a bug in the game as I can't see canonballs flying, realise I am shooting grapeshot.

- Flip myself trying to stop a trade brig with a snow;

- Boarded a trader snow, captured it and escaped the combat in it regardless another IA ship was still in the room, thus loosing the Navy Brig I had used for boarding.

- Changing a blue navy brig for a grey Mercury.

Top 3 stupids?
Well, I'll start with #1. Trying to board a trade cutter in my trade snow. I kept getting in close. It turned, got under my bow and flipped me.
#2, I had a near full cargo, (2 3rd's of capacity) so being so reckless and over-confident was stupid since I spent 1 or 2 hours previously buying up goods to trade.
#3, Being rank 4 I lost a dura on two of my escort (fleet) ships that can never be replaced.

Believing that everybody knows that this is EARLY ACCESS, so therefore it is still a work in progress and the longevity of the game is one of the main objectives.

But sadly, no!

It's a dog it dog world like EVE, with big egos and Zerg nations steam rolling smaller nations.

Where players are all about the quick rush than a gradual build up.

Where you hear, that US Clans hate GB SLRN clan or the Pirates only like the Danes, that the smaller nations wish they could just have some breathing space to play instead of just getting smashed.

That's my mistake in this game.

Says the guy plays as a Brit in SLRN...?

Having "G" as my push-to-talk key for TS. It's very convenient until you are slowly going for a rake on a 3rd rate and have to ask someone a question.

buying a large ammount of resources in a given port that I'm not outpost in, leaving the port without having put them in my cargo hold due to not reading the warning, assuming it was the no canon warning.

Yeah, I made that mistake of having a common key a few times in other games, I have "Insert" as a my talk key now. The "0" on the num pad.

1. Bought something in Kingston and tried to find a port to sell it at a profit.

2. Hit sail once and forgot I was not in my Mercury.

3.Accidentally rammed an AI Third Rate and his crew swarmed over my ship like ants immediately.

Mistook 'Blood' in small battle for player.  In fairness I did ask clan if AI was enabled in small battles and was told no.

Kept getting this guy almost every battle.  Wondered why he never replied to me in battle chat

1) tried to manually bring coal purchased in Pitts Town back to safety in Brit waters, because I didn't want to waste my TP. Was almost to Portillo before a trio of pirates overtook my heavily laden t.brig

2) invested heavily in gold and hemp immediately before the production building patch

3) attempted to ram a Danish trincomalee with my frigate, thinking to make myself take on water and sink rather than be captured by the group. Ended up slowing down enough in the ram to be easily boarded.
