Did any 1 know that the Urca de Lima was actually the Santisima Trinidads grand father??? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urca_de_Lima
Chromey Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I loled at the Lynx video when the dude said it was heavily armed >< pps. The Seawolf? Looks like a movie about why sailors didnt like women on board the ships!
Styles Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Not your typical sailing-movie, but it has water in it
Captain BlackVane Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 I suggest * Hornblower the TV series * Master and Commander Apart from small cameos in other movies I cannot really think of any more worth watching. Hornblower is a great TV/Movie series
Macjimm Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Watched Black Sails for the "sailing". Was very disappointed to find almost none.
_Alucard_ Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 I watched the Hornblower series and it was great. Highly recommended
Captiva Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 The Spanish Main (1945) Maureen O'Hara, Paul Henreid
kda_0420 Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I like to watch the documentaries about pirates on Yotube
Macjimm Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I gave up watching Black Sails because there was very little sailing. But I understand that there is more sailing scenes in the storm episodes. Perhaps it is worth giving it another go. Anyone one know which episodes have more that a few minutes of sailing?
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I gave up watching Black Sails because there was very little sailing. But I understand that there is more sailing scenes in the storm episodes. Perhaps it is worth giving it another go. Anyone one know which episodes have more that a few minutes of sailing? Season 1 is very cold. Pretty much an intro to all the characters. Combat snips are quite well thought of and you have quite a few as much as with sailing with chases, maneuvers, etc in the follow ups.
JaM Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 It gets much better later on... Season 3 is especially great, with big storm in the first episode (better than the one in Master and Commander...),while last episode of Season 3 is like a dream come true... with large land and sea battle, with Blackbeard leading a fleet of pirates against British ships...
Macjimm Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Thanks for the replies. Sounds good. Black sails goes Naval. Cool. Does season 2 have lots of sailing and ship scenes or is it almost all drama and land based stuff? If anyone is especially keen and can list the specific episodes that have lots of sailing it would be helpful.
Capt Hornblower Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 so, I saw Admiral yesterday. DAMN fine movie. just a bit annoyed with all the subtitles. seems to me, De Ruyter was ill used, tho he was still brilliant. and Tromp pulling out of line like that provided for an unexpected advantage. the CGI was just incredible, and seeing that first battle as De Ruyters wife climbed the dike, was just O.M.F.G., as were the following battles. well worth seeing
Cpt Blackthorne Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Admiral - about de Ruyter - on netflix now https://youtu.be/j21t1i_SiKI
Sir Cloudsley-Shovell Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Not of Naval Action era,but possibly one of the great all time Naval films.Based on true events while the World watched the World Cup in Korea the PRNK crossed the Northern Limit Line into South Korean waters engaging South Korean Gunboats.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Not exactly naval action timeframe, but it is centered around the sea... so... yeah...
