Hello! I'm at rank 5 and I am considering becoming a pirate as I am finding my nation pretty dull. Has anybodydone this yet? what happens? do I loose my ships etc?

Thanks!

Several players have done this.

What I know that you lose is access to your already establish outpost so what you want to do is to either open up an outpost in a freeport/freetown (so you can access it) or sell the stuff off. The ship you attack your nation with (to become pirate you need to attack an ally, right now that is the same nation) will be the one you carry over to the pirate world (if you havent moved stuff to a freeport)

Nothing really important really happens, as the mechanics are the same except that pirates can attack each other. Other than that they are exactly like nations.

There is no real point to switching to pirates unless you like the flag. No signifigant change.( you do lose access to all your former nations ports, but that's no different than a French ship trying to get into a Brit harbor)

I could be wrong but as Pirates are just another nation you just have to delete your account and re create in the Pirate Nation if coming from another server, if this is not the case then it would be to simply start as another nation apart from pirate and to attack a friendly ship to turn pirate yourself.

You can simply attack someone of your own nation (NPC that doesn't have contraband, or player) to become pirate.

No, this is so false.

Has it been changed? I have not checked for sometime, if he's coming from another server I believe this would be one of the ways of becoming pirate? if not my bad, my information was off.

There are 2 Ways to do it.

The "normal" Way is to attack a player of you own Nation in the OW. If you Attack him sucessfull (drag him into battlescreen) you become a pirate (even if you dont shoot him and flee).

This means you dont lose anything of your old stuff (Gold, Blueprints, Ships,Goods), but maybe you dont have access to it any longer (you can only enter free towns and pirate towns as a pirate).

So if you plan to become a pirate and you move all your stuff in a free town, you will lose nothing. You will lose everything that is stored in your old nation towns or in neutral towns, even if you have outposts there.

The other way is to delete your char and create a new one. You will lose all your gold, blueprints, Ships and Goods. Everything expect the EXP and Craft EXP will be lost.

If you're looking to join a clan, I would suggest you talk to that clan before you change.  If you have all your ships in your nation ports, it would be a good idea to move them to a free port close to the Bahamas also before you switch.  Once you become pirate, you cannot dock at your nations ports so if you don't move your stuff 1st you won't be able to access it.

So get yourself and your stuff down to the free port. Then when ready to make the switch, attack an AI or player from your existing faction. You'll instantly become pirate.

If you're on EU PVP1, and interested in joining a clan, let us know and we'll help you make the transition. Click my sig for info.

oh and... YARRRR!

To become a pirate, all you have to do is attack your own nation.
Or you can delete your account, start as a different nation and keep your rank and XP if you want.
If you want to keep your "stuff", ships, gold, etc. Give it to a friend in-game and they can give it back at a freeport.

So my team was on a bugged mission that did not happen however when I clicked on it it engaged with one of my team members. So now I am a pirate!
Though I never fired a shot. How do I get back to being a Dane?

You shouldn't become a pirate. I've accidently attack one of my own nation ships on OW. But I just fled in the battle.

In a group? Don't know about that. Could happen I suppose. You'll have to reset your character since there is currently no way to become an "un-pirate".

Give your valuables (gold, ships, etc) to a friend in a freetown.

Delete your characters.

Create new Danish Character.

Get valuable back from friend.

There you go! No longer a pirate and you still have all your stuff and XP. :)

if you go the route of shooting at your own nation....make sure you clear any outposts in your nation controlled towns and move ships to free ports so you can access them after you raise the Jolly Roger ;)

I'm pretty sure you become pirate regardless whether you shoot. Simply clicking attack and entering the battle seems to do it.

Late news now but if it ever happens again, or to anyone else reading, simply click the attack button again to reset the timer and keep resetting it until you sail out of range of the target.

PS, Welcome to the Pirate's me laddy.  ;)
