Scarborough Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I have been playing mostly PVE. I was curious if PVP and PVE experience and equipment carried over between both servers. Also, I was curious which one provides quicker ranking up? I have read a few guides but nothing seemed to have cover the pros/cons of both server types.
Macjimm Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I'm scared to try the PvE server because no character is available for me there. Will my PvP character be deleted if I create a character to join the PvE server.
SphinX Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Your rank and crafting xp carry over, but nothing else. You'll have no gold, no ships bar the basic cutter, no outposts and no blueprints beyond the ones you get for levelling up.
Joe Spivey Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Another question I don't find clearly answered anywhere is: Can I have separate characters on separate servers? So Character Bob on server one. Character Sue on server two. Character Tom on server three etc.

The only thing that is carried over back and forth is your character xp.

Lucas Corso Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 My character is not available on the PvE server. If I create one will my PvP character be deleted? No, both characters will exist, each on their own server.
Ghroznak Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I created a character on all 4 servers for testing purposes. Nothing got deleted and I still have my "main" character with the most progression (as far as gold and ships go). When you create new characters on a different servers they are all the same rank and crafting level. However... the gold, items, ships and blueprints that you have obtained on one character is NOT shared with all the other characters on the other servers. So you can't farm gold, ships, items and blueprints on PvE server and then log on the PvP server and think you have all the assets there as well. Furthermore... if you have a high rank then that can actually be slightly detrimental for you when you start a fresh character on a new server, because you can't do missions. Rather... you can pick up missions, but if you are in a Basic Cutter on new character, with a rank that allows you 350 crew, then you will be facing Renommee's, Surprises and even Frigates and Belle Poules in your missions. So you are stuck in a Basic Cutter trying to capture trading ships or other cutters to start getting any progress.
Macjimm Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I created a character on all 4 servers for testing purposes This is different from the options I had. I created a character on PVP1 and the same character was available on PvP2 and PvP3. I understood that I was only allowed one. Although no character is available on PvE1. So perhaps this is a bug with me. Or perhaps I can delete a character on PvP1 and I will retain the character on PvP2 and PvP3. Wish that an Admin or Dev would provide an answer . I don't want to risk deleting something if this is an anomaly.

This allows people to have different nation/named characters on different servers, while keeping their combat XP and craft XP. You should be fine deleting one of your alt characters on the other servers and creating a new one if you like. When you delete a character, all of that character's assets on that particular server will be deleted as well.

There is a post somewhere (I'd have to go back and find it again) warning people that the delete character mechanic is currently not set up in an ideal way. If I recall they are warning people NOT to delete any character on any server since when you delete it on one it gets deleted on all. I'm on my way out the door right now but I'll try to remember to go find it but I think it may even be a sticky somewhere.

I appreciate your response. I would like to try a different character on a different server, I would not like to try to create a new one with even a slight danger of deleting a character on a separate server. The assurance that I should be fine is concerning. I hope there is a definitive answer coming. But I feel compelled to emphasize that there are bigger issues and I can certainly enjoy the game without trying variable characters. For now I will avoid the gamble.

I personally hid it because it was no longer relevant. You can look, but will not find it in the Developer News section.
