Rosebud Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Are my sails up...wheres my magnifing glass to see? This system of information is too small. The time between taking them down and them actually coming down I understand and like. However I need a clearer reference to what is happening aloft. A image of my sails on the side and their current condition would be great. It needs to be far more visual then a tiny written percentage. In the heat of battle it should only take a glance to recognize your sail situation. In addition the ship in the compass needs to be elongated. The bow of it does not give a clear indication of your exact heading. I line down the length of the image that extends through to the direction the ship is heading would be most helpful. If you are going to ask players to use dead reckoning as their soul navigational tool, at least make their ability to choose a direction more precise.
kumisz Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I like the current % based feedback, takes up far less space than a slider, and I think the game should run with the least amount of UI possible. 3
Francis Tabernac Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I agree with kumisz, I like a very minimal UI approach. Keep as much nice, clean space open as possible to enjoy watching the carnage. 1
Joe Spivey Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I'd like a graphical representation of which sails are raised and lowered on fore and aft rigged vessels especially.
Rosebud Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 I like the current % based feedback, takes up far less space than a slider, and I think the game should run with the least amount of UI possible. Than toggle it off.
kumisz Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Than toggle it off. You know that it is not a viable option. I didn't say "no UI", just the minimal that is needed to the game.
ObiQuiet Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) About a year ago, I sketched a version of the UI that * has larger, bolder text to make it easier to see the numbers, rudder position, etc. * uses a litle bit of color for easy-to-miss information (like Manual) * (ignore the reload text -- that was a different idea) Edit: here's the full version And theSpatchula's thread that has a lot of ui ideas in it.
