Kaos Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 I know that yellow ships are taking over. But if the abstract, invisible phenomenon of other people using yellow ships while you have a purple one destroys your ability to enjoy the game, that is really not the game's fault. And this nebulous idea of 'doing something about loss' would require the quality system to scrapped entirely, or else even the Chinese gold farmers would go 3/5. I think the grindwall to get gear for new players without connections/knowledge is too big...as a result, pvp and learning how to pvp might be something they put at the end of the list once they're done climbing that wall unless they decide to pack up and join some bigger clan to get all the info and gear. This is just considering it from a solo player's perspective and was written before early access as feedback when wondering why the average skill level is so low and why so many people just instantly give up and run even if they have all the possibilities to win the engagement: -Gear influence instead of focusing on improving skills: Right now for me it is very simple. I wait for my friends to craft for me and after they reach max level and give me my wanted modules/ship I never need them again because there is no ship-drain, module drain and the only money-sink is buying new repair kits, everything is no problem. But if I think of new player without such friends I can only see struggle for information and struggle for getting gear and I think this might be one of the mental blocks that many people create for themselves to not fight back or get more into pvp. ''I am not ready yet, I don't have golden modules/ship, I just have green *points bow to 135 and goes afk* '' There is no choice, you must get modules or you won't compete independently and I think instead of linear bonus they should be more like modifiers to customize your ship instead of straight buffs to make stock ships more viable and reduce MUST HAVE modules and increase choice. More like speed trim with negatives and less like powder monkey or reinforced masts without any negatives. When people spend most of their time farming rank in mind numbingly boring pve missions and are too busy grinding out the gear and neglecting pvp then in the end the quality of pvp they can provide on their own when you catch one outside of their gankpacks is the same as those automatic skipper santisima's from sea trials who grinded their santi out in pve room before reaching the courage to try their hand in pvp room. Quite a dejavu from potbs actually, since majority people were too busy fleeting/doing dailies instead of bothering with this disgusting thing called pvp but we have a pve server in this game for those people so I don't know anymore... 2
Wicked Mouse Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvgKLB4k8Fs Yogscast Duncan (~2 million subscribers) just posted a video of their main cast members playing Naval Action. They do acknowledge that it is early access, but clearly were not sure how certain things worked. At the end they said they intend to release more Naval Action videos. Yogscast Duncan's videos sometimes reach 100-200,000 views, so even if 1 or 2% of they viewers became interested, that's a pretty significant population boost to the game. Update - Here is their follow up video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bgm_oB9r9TY I don't know if it's to be credited to Yogscast, but the ownership dipped a little since 21 February, but went up by about 10,000 about 5 days after. Took a screenshot, as the data will change over time (Source: SteamSpy)
