I don't know if this idea was already ingame or planned

but i just had this idea of a tactic board

you know in these movies , when there's scene in the captains hut you can see a big table with a map with pawns etc on it

these represent either enemies or points of interest

i would love to see a tactical board like that in game so you or you and your guild can use this as a tactical map when you are about to attack or making a plan for traveling .

if this is already ingame i would like to know

thanks!

Would be a great tool for societies and alliances

brilliant right:) but the visualisation could be a seperate menu where u could make several merchant routes or war tactic routes , or anything that could be relevant in this game, i could sum up several of these  but i would totally like a graphical evironment in the menus or something in any way where it would be easy to look up and look quite in that style aswell

I think this is a great idea! Sadly, I see this as something that someone will create as an AddOn to the game rather than a feature the devs provide since it is an "extra" kind of thing.

i didnt know it was an extra thing , i was kinda hoping they will still look at this idea

they will look add it sure, but if we will get it will be another question. if do mean that the players have an Avatar like in the potbs war-room befor the Port battles

then no that will come later since focus is on shipgameplay and optimising.

i wasnt talking about avatars , i was talking about a tactic board, and it can be a part of the gameplay of your ships depends how u look at it, u can see it from different perspectives

you mean like the table with an map and icons on it? that you switch camera angle? sure shouldnt be that much of a problem

well i would implement it a bit smoother but it basicly comes down to that.  and u can set different routes and it points u in the right direction maybe or something but with this idea u can actually create so much more if u have this base

plus i would like to play the game first to test and see and after that i can write a full report on ideas if i can have the base information of what we have now and what is coming and from there on i can collaborate ideas or create new ones , its fairly easy to be creative for me

they will read it sooner or later they are a small team and they have to take care of the russian forum too just be paitent.

Looking through the threads in forums, I saw that devs are not so keen on implementing a functional map in to the game.

However, based on my experiences in PotBS, I would suggest a user friendly and functional map to make the game play more fun and the communication easier.

Strategic Map/Tactic Board:

As tactic board/map, I was thinking an interactive map, which can be used not only for navigation and path finding issues, but as well as for communicating through the group and synchronising/defining maneveurs to each other within the group.

When pressing "m" you can get this map tab, where the friendly as well as enemy ships are marked. Other than orientation, this map could be used by group leader for giving orders, defining routes, explaining sailing lines or standing still formations, calling targets and other relevant info during the battle. While at port battles in PotBS, we used to have an external source for that matter which is a free meeting program called twiddla.

www.twiddla.com

Group fights and fleet fights:

Lets say the maximum size of one group is 5 captains. All members in the group can see this map, but only the group leader can draw/sketch lines and tactics on it. In a port battle or huge fleet fight like 25v25, after assigning a fleet commander, every member of the fleet can see the orders from the fleet commander. But each group member can also see the orders of his group leader, too.

Since communication is the key, this tool might increase the the succes and fun factors in the game.

just found this thread  great ideas

was kind of thinking if they had a captain's cabin while at sea

a table with a chart of the local area and larger area where you can plot your course

local chart could be used instead of radar map like potbs map showing everything in area

the chart could be used showing your relative location / heading and other ships within sight ( with their course/heading)

it would show them as unidentified until you or your spotters made an identification

after they went out of sight it (could show) their last heading for a period of time or distance aprox 30-50 nm  <

was thinking about just for open sea

but would be nice for battle in bad weather/visibility

would be nice to know land location and last known heading of your opponent

Press home, zoom out and you have your own map.

An isometric map like below would also be very very useful.

And drawing on it would be perfect commander, group leader tool.

I like the idea of the feature, however I think that if used in the midst of combat is could detract from the immersion. During a battle things became very chaotic and the Admiral could not necessarily see all of the goings on. Generally you would have a Commanding Officer for the Van, Centre and Rear. That being said I do like the sound of Poyraz's idea with regards to these group commanders being able to convey 'signals' to their immediate Captains whilst still understanding/seeing the grand battleplan in place via the Commander in Chief. It certainly could make use of frigates in line engagements and on the strategic map to relay signals/update the tactical map so that the Commander can adjust the situation. There was always the greatest regards for scouts during this time, Nelson raged with regards to his lack of scouts during the chase before the Battle of the Nile. With Scouts/frigates being able to update the map with the enemies location it would cater for multiple styles of gameplay rather than just the line of battleships.

i actually think that this would only be. Usefull beefore a battle. During a battle you do bot want borg vision.

You want scout vessels to have to signal.

Not really an issue IMO. You would train/practice this sort of thing as a group and then the Squadron/Fleet Senior Officer would simply signal what formation/manoeuver is required...everyone should then know. IMO co-operative combat amongst guild/alliance/fleet/squadron members should be something to train for and be part of the sandbox gameplay. Fail to Prepare/Prepare to Fail. Train In Peace as you would for War. Prior Preparation and Planning Prevents a Poor Performance (6Ps rule)

I like what you say oldnavy and its true to some extent. The only problem is that since this is a video game there is no command structure that ensures all groups will do this and no accountability other than being called a noob.

Well Johnny you have a good point there, but the gratuitous hurling of the "noob" epithet far and wide is one thing no amount of dev and modelling can rid us of....But equally, this is what will separate then men from the boys, the "professional" from the "amateur". I would not expect for one moment that everyone would do this kind of preparation and training, but I would expect Tattered Flags to....... ;)

Well, rest assured, the leaders of Tattered Flags come from a society in Potbs that was the only society to hold Port Battle training for the nation at large. We are committed to not loosing because of rookies. The manual sailing in this game will prove it to be all the more important.
