I just had the worst case of this yet.

This "friendly" player jumped in the battle several minutes after I tagged the target and I told him I was capturing.

He kept on shooting at my prize and me and was finally able to actually interrupt my boarding........I didn't know someone could even do that once you were already well into boarding a ship.

Anyways I had to wait for the cool down, meanwhile he's still trying to sink my prize and I lock on again and capture the ship.

I took down this player's name and took screenshots.

How do you report him ?

I just had someone (same faction) do this near Port Morant. No response in chat, completely ignoring any contact. They are just deliberate trolls.

He had no intent to board the trader and was aiming to just sink it ( firing at the waterline)after coming into my match about 3 mins in. Not sure if reporting will do anything with present mechanics. Frustrating loss of an hour of time for nothing due to someone's desire to grief. The trader ended up leaving the match and the player exited after blocking me from catching the trader by cutting me off repeatedly.

Is there any remedy to this?

* Edit : requested change:  I would like to see the game use the same mechanic for capturing traders as missions. Either in a group (same faction) & only enemy players can enter your instance.

Once, another player joined in and I told him it was my tag and I was capturing and he offered assistance with demasting rather than catching up and trying to sink my prize.......and I thanked him for his help.

There has got to be a way to stop this behavior.

I actually think that might have been me? lol

Again, to the two Frenchmen chasing the Trader down. The Trader doesn't belong to the person who starts the encounter. It belongs to the person to boards and captures the ship. Tagging an encounter gives no rights to the tagger. Why should it?

Could be one of those unwritten competive gaming etiquette rules. Although it sounds like just a matter of personal taste. Would like to know if it is officially against NA rules (ban worthy).

I would never steal anyone's prize ship. Never have. Would offer to help by chaining sails and would watch.

I've never been bothered by it though. Just doesn't seem like a big deal. I don't understand how the instance belongs to me when I start it. I don't disagree and it sounds like some players feel strongly that they own an instance if they start it. Just don't know if that's true. I would think that the prize belongs to the ship that can close with and board the target vessel. Or to the senior ranking officer (if both vessels are of the same nation), regardless of who captures her.

If it did happen and it bothered me I would sail on a little ways and seek a location away from players that are prone to jumping into the same instance as I'm in.

I think the argument is shifting away from where it should be.  A lot of us don't think that it belongs to the person who tagged it, at least I don't.  But at the same time there should be a way for specific factions to fight each other over the prize if they wish it.

Aka French vs Pirate over British Trade Ship

Pirate vs Pirate over French Trade ship.
