The majority of complaints seem to be about " everything takes to long " or " i cant find a fair fight and i get sunk and lose my ship " .

As someone who works 60+ hours a week 6 days a week and had a full time life ' video games can be a challenge for me but when i saw this game i knew i had to have it.

What ive learned in a short time is that this game is exactly what you make it. Before i bought NA i did my homework on it , watched it on twitch and ask questions and realized i would have to adapt my lifestyle into this game mechanics.

I chose to play a pirate for less responsibilities, like war , fleets and clans and running cities ( if that happens) because i dont have the time for it. I also realized that missions where stupid and not for me and that looking fkr pvp or easy ai targets was for me and my time schedule.

In just two weeks i have ports set up in 3 different areas on the map, all close to action. I log in and go hunting. Even in my short days i can find a fight ir two AND if i get jumped by 10 guys well then i make that my fun ! I mean it gets my heart pumping when im trying to run from a fleet tired of a pirate skimming thier shores and when or if i get away then i gota run on the OW map which can be a challenge.

Point is i never cant find a thrill or action.

Now if youre the person that must have the maximum level with the biggest ship and thats the ONLY way to enjoy life then YOU must adapt your time to that goal. Find a clan , log in , get with a group or 4 or 5 amd power level by attacking ai or player fleets. The xp pours in that way and you can achieve levels quick and protect your ship.

If your the player that has to be the 70th lvl paladinasaouras and +2 vorpal sword then YOU need to play your time like that so that when you log in you know you are close to where your clan is going to fight and need you.

If you hate losing your ship cyz you dont get infinite lives then use that big ship for what its intended for . Fleet action and you will have much less chance of losing it.

Wht im trying to say is that this and any sandbox game is what you bring to it and they all have a niche for everything in the game. The smallest ships and traders can and do fill a role , the guys who go raiding the bad guys in small ships have thier roles distracting enemies while the big fleets move for attack etc.

This game is in alpha and is going to have sooooo much more to it. Just learn to adjust your play to your time and you will enjoy most aspects of the game. Even sailing ffrom port to port for 15 minutes can be fun if you constantly are scowering the horizon for enemies or looking at the mp to make your next move.

I doubt anyone will find this useful and since im on my phone doing this its not in depth but maybe it can give a few people a idea on how to have fun .

Good gathering of thoughts.

I enjoy NA for its simple rules but complex gameplay. Pretty much like a air combat sim but with wooden ships and iron guts.

There is always something more to learn. There is not end to it.

And in all honesty the game is not that demanding in time. A corsair going about his way under a national flag can effectively do its share outside the big fleet actions and, time allowing, get into a shallow port defense now and then.

Rank is so subjective it almost hurts more than not. It gives away nothing about the quality of the player behind the title and the same goes to the ship. And here in lies many folks mistake... the bigger the ship the harder it gets.

I don't work 60 hours a week but I do tend to limit my computer time to say a max of 8 hours a week (usually a few hours Wednesday evening and the rest Friday night) and that's not necessarily committed to one game.

I enjoy the time I do have regardless of how long it all takes. Yes sometimes I sit there and think "man this battle has gone on for over an hour, my partner will be home any minute to ruin my peace and quiet!" but at the same time I know it's been time well spent.

As for fair fights, well I can't say that I have been in many that are 100% fair but I've had the best of both worlds, it's not always unfair to my team but there is always the option of doing a runner if we have clearly lost but not sunk yet. After all, I don't think those basic cutters are too worried what happens to their ships like I am!

I am thoroughly enjoying the game even in these early stages and with what I feel is limited game time. I don't truly understand some people's train of thought. Some people are just born moaners. You've got a decent amount of time to refund your game back on Steam these days if you don't like it.

Hahaha! Funny thing is I've been trying to avoid ranking up too quickly from 3rd rank onwards.

I'm quite the opposite player when it comes to time playing the game. I could easily spend hours just exploring or doing long distance trading, and I really enjoy it. I am currently setting up outposts at every edge of the map. That's my main goal right now. Even getting lost and not ending up at all where I was trying to go can be a real thrill! I'll attack targets of opportunity, of course. But sometimes I'm in the mood for some hard slugging battles. That's when I return to the major action and join up with some friends and take one of my largest warships out of mothballing for a tour of duty.

Cheers,

Yes.. I quite agree with OP. I also would like it if the devs separated xp gain from rank. I don't want to rank up higher than captain! I will forever be a frigate man..

I will forever be a frigate man..

This is my aim playing this game. I want a few "70th lvl paladinasaouras and +2 vorpal sword" frigates (up to connies), but still...

I had a fun battle( if you could call it that lol) last night.

U.S had a failed attack on a pirate port, I in my snow arrived as a lone U.S tricon was trying to avoid being ganked by about 10 rats.

Rats initiated battle with tricon, I joined. I was able to put myself in between the rats and the tricon and tie up the rats long enough for the tricon to escape. Of course I was torn to shreds in the process. Even tho I lost I succeeded in my goal( temporarily at least) and helped the tricon player preserve his dura on a more valuable ship.

I really hope the guy escaped further pursuit, never did find out lol. I really didn't get much XP or gold, lost a dura but it was the most fun I had thus far.

Far to many are caught up with always winning, being the first to get something or just getting to top rank in a few days. Good way to drive yourself nuts and hate the game. But to each their own.

Good thread. Thanks for your thoughts lads. I get even less time to game lately but enjoy these forums. Listening to people explain what they value about the game is very helpful to understanding the mindset other players.

I was starting to think that anyone who doesn't like fighting PVP at equal or disadvantaged odds was not welcome here.

Sounds like there is a wide varied distribution of tastes and preferences. I'm just beginning to see the fascinating complexity of an open world MMO.

I've been power levelling as much as my time allows me as I want to be in a line ship for port battles. However I've done it through a good combination of missions and fleet hunting in a group (sometimes up to 10 of us). While its not the most efficient route it has been great fun. We've had a good amount of PVP and three or four port battles which have been a welcome distraction.

I just wish they would let me pull three Flag Captain missions from the same port so that I don't have to sail back to port after each mission.
