Saving progress

Hey guys, I'm a newb with a pretty newbish question. What is the proper way to save my progress in game? I thought i have to simply get in the port and exit the game. But i guess that is not the way to do this. After spending couple of hours doing missions, achieving third rank and buying 6th class ship i left the game when i was in Tiburon. Today i logged in and apparently I've lost my Snow and I'm stuck with my basic cutter again in Port Royal. I've also previously found some upgrades, sold one just so i can afford the Snow (i think it was a steel toolbox). The gold is gone and so is the upgrade. But the amount of exp is the same. So every time I want to leave the game I have to go back to Port Royal? And what if I get disconnected in some random place in the open sea?

You logged out from a different server than the one you logged into.

 

So, let's say you got 3rd rank and your 6-th rate on PvP1.

 

Then, you log out.  When you come back to the game, you instead select PvP3 - everything but your rank and craft rank won't be there because it's a different server.  Try logging into the other servers and I think you'll quickly find the one where you left your 6th rate.     Progress is saved instantly as it is attained.
