Radom Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 New player here and I have a question about pvp on open sea. Last night I was "lucky" enough to get jumped while enjoying some shrimp and sailing my cutter The "person" who attacked me was showing as a single ship on open sea but once the combat instance started it was 3 players plus their "bought fleet". From this I'm assuming that a "gang fleet" will show up as a single ship on open sea till it enters combat? If I click on that "ship" will it give me breakdown of which ships are part of it so I can gage if I should run it not? Second question: while exploring I came across "crossed swords" in a middle of nowhere but the name said "event" when I clicked on it. I have seen admiralty missions and open type battles but have not seen "event" type yet so can anyone explain what that type is?
walleye Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 (edited) 1. Yep. If you click on him it will give you his name rank, ship he is in then list his fleet. Which will be npc's and other players. 2. That should be one of your missions you selected in port. I thought they Say event, but I have kind of not payed much attention to it lately. But i still believe those are your missions from your port. Maybe some one else has a little more clarification on that one. Edited February 16, 2016 by walleye

Maybe some one else has a little more clarification on that one. I've encountered an "Event" out in the middle of nowhere quite a few times. I'm not sure what they are either. They are definitely not a mission or an ongoing battle. Having only a cutter or a trade ship each time, I didn't went to risk engaging it.
walleye Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Hmm..then I am not sure. Maybe take a screenshot. I'd like to see what that is you are seeing. Maybe a horde doubloons on the other side.. !

If that player have a npc fleet, they are just listed in its infos on open sea. If you ended attacked by several players, then the others came into battle before it closed (five minutes). Events are random, they are small battles similar to a mission, but you won't get any bonus reward from it.
Radom Posted February 17, 2016 Author Posted February 17, 2016 On my screen one ship had the circle around me when combat timer expired but when the instance started there were 8 ships shown (at least 4-5 were rented cutters) and rest Merc and Snows and anither timer was going so I was just wandering what happened since all showed up at once and not like someone joining after fight starts. They were not very good and I got away in my trader with speed upgrades but it still was a lot of fun. Definately got me hooked on the pvp aspect.
Admiral 8Q Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Events are random, they are small battles similar to a mission, but you won't get any bonus reward from it. A small battle as in If I attack it could be me vs one npc?
walleye Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Oh..that would make sense. If it's a random generated mission on the open sea then I imagine other players were able to jump in. Missions that you get from your port, they are not able to do that
hoarmurath Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 A small battle as in If I attack it could be me vs one npc? Yes, or two smaller npcs maybe. For me it was always against one.
Admiral 8Q Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I actually engaged an "Event" yesterday in my trade snow with 2 cutter escorts. I ended up fighting a privateer. So yeah, it's pretty cool that you can have an encounter during a long boring trade voyage between ports on the open sea.
Ghroznak Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I want the events to contain the Urca de Lima, with it's load of gold for me to abscond with. The Events are rather strange though as they seem to also have a rank requirement attached to them. We tried to join one as a group, but nothing happened. Then one of us were able to join it, but rest of us couldn't jump in so we had to wait. He had to fight a brig or some such and came out with the xp/gold as normal (damaged based stuff), but nothing fancy. Now we just ignore the events as the missions are more profitable, and we can't join as a team anyways.
Admiral 8Q Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Yeah that's true. I just thought I'd test out an "Event" to see what happens. Not bad if you're in a pure warship travelling between ports for days at sea. I prefer plundering and capturing lone trade vessels. Much more profitable.
Rubble Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I took on an event early on in my career, I sunk the single enemy ship and looted some planking that sold for 20k on the market. I believe it is the only time I got loot from sinking a ship. (im 90% sure I sank him, I dont think I knew how to cap at the time).
