Who can come into a port battle, deep or shallow, who can come in?  Now I know the answer is going to be xyz type ships depending on whether its deep or shallow ..... well I am asking something deeper here.

PvP One EU server, I heard this in chat on the DEFENCE of a port ' do not enter the port battle if you have a frigate and below because you will take up battle slots and stop bigger ships getting in ',   I really get that, it makes sense, and I was willing to play as a team and so I played the blockade.

However I was struck by the ships that I passed on the way to the port, who when asked, said 'not going, too smaller ship', even though they met the port battle requirements. I wonder about this, how that will pan out long term?  Interested to hear what people think.

As the slots are limited to 25 it is the intention of the admiral in charge of the attack to bring as much firepower as possible, at the stage we are 3rd Rates and Constitutions.

Basically for a while he wants to make sure all possible of those enter and then after they taken up slots the rest go in.

The blockades are a interesting thing because of the tag and couter tag but because of the nature of free cutters it can be a bit annoying given it could result in interesting skirmishes, which happens at times, but most of the time is used as time waster for the big fellows until the countdown to enter the port battle ends and it gets inaccessible.

Also the Reinforcement ability adds a lot of mess to this especially when two ports from two warring nations are close by.

So to answer your question, the requirements are two fold, game wise as in dep and shallow ship models and meta gaming wise where the admiral decides which ships he wants in the line.

I get it. But here's how it goes :

- only big ships.

- then only ships fully crewed.

- then only only 1 language fir best communication.

- then only experienced pvp'ers.

- then only specific Clans, since they work best together.

...

At the end of the day sir, you've paid for your game in full. You may choose to work with someone desiring to influence port battle fleet composition, but you are under no obligation. Trust me, the requests above are real, and you will hear them.

Well I get the bit if you paid for the flag, but what if you are just defence? .. then you paid for nothing .. But yes, you paid for the game, not ring side seats :)   Now that all said, if the defence lost and you had entered in a row boat , well you are not going to be popular.  Why have limited slots?... is it a hardware server issue?.. i dont know.

It's a sandbox, so of course people try to establish rules and you may or may not follow them with or without conequences for your reputation. In some cases the common good prevails, in some cases the personal desire to get fun on a snow with two NPC cutters.

I do whatever I care to and could not care less what others think about it. I strongly suggest you take the same attitude or self-elected national leaders will dictate to you everything that you are allowed to do for the rest of your time in game. Once you start giving them power they don't ever care to relinquish it. Nor do they ever approach things in a democratic fashion. Don't let the threat of alienation hinder you. Unless of course you enjoy being someones bish. Because when you do as told that is exactly what you become. They will often hide their lust for control and power behind "good for the nation". But it's never about that. It's always about their power and the garnering of more of it.
