CPMag Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 A thread for people thinking about switching servers and a personal comparison of the Denmark Norge factions of [uSA] PVP 1 and [uSA] PVP 2 If you're reading this and you're in Denmark 1 or 2, I talk (and rant) a bit about what it's like on the other side. Also a look at how hard server merging is going to be in this game. Posting this in general discussions since it's not that much of faction news and only somewhat clan discussion plus I would like it if you guys shared your opinions and experiences on swapping servers So with the talk of the population settling and server swapping I've been seeing I decided to go check out the Denmark faction of [uSA] PVP 2, just to scout out just how "active" it is compared to Denmark 1 and at the very least capture my way up the food chain to a 5th rate so I could participate in their port battles if my help was needed. In the beginning I was worried that Denmark 1 was going to be the "lesser server" and eventually burn out over time as USA 2 usually has a higher population status when I check on the login screen, however Denmark 1 actually felt much more active with a potentially bigger population. I've put around 18-22 hours on that server and I've given up on them, I can't even imagine what a server merge would do to both these factions if it's ever needed in the future. Right from the start, the economy felt much worse. Denmark 2 actually felt more cutthroat than what I've seen of the Pirate economies. Made the mistake of getting crafting materials for a ship as all the ships felt overpriced with much less options to spend my money on. Ended up spending twice as much as I would have on Denmark 1 and took twice as long to find a crafter. The Faction chat felt dead compared to Denmark 1, but apparently its because people are "too busy talking in the factions superclan of the server" (More on this also). It wasn't bad, you could probably ask a question and receive and answer after the person that gave you your answer got permission from the high rank of his clan to respond to you. There was 1 clan I actually ran into on the OW as opposed to a healthy selection I was able to pick and choose from in Denmark 1. Don't even remember the name of this clan though, if you've play on Denmark 2 you'll definitely know which one I'm talking about as it's impossible not to run into them. Saw another can mentioned in the chat and people chatting about creating smaller ones but never actually ran into them (and I went to every Denmark/Free/Neutral port around the spawn zone at least once, if not 10s of times) Didn't want to get involved with a clan or make any commitments just yet, but rest assured I was invited to this clan and saw an advertisement for it in the faction chat within my first hour of playing on the server. I'm positive you would have to purposely opt out of signing up for this because they mass recruit everybody in the server one way or another lol. At first I was interested in this "superclan", having the entire server in 1 organized group sounds good, but after my time spent here I think there is a pretty big problem with 1 clan having a monopoly on the faction. This clan pretty much is the faction. It means that the entire nation has to follow this clans rules and restrictions and players that don't get along with a higher ranking member of the clan (or even the owner) are practically "exiled" from their nation. Might sound ridiculous, but imagine being almost 100% alone and having 0 assistance because you disagree with the clans rules (the CLANS rules not the Naval Action official community guidelines or anything like that) and the clan leader told everybody else that helping you would mean your own expulsion. You can make groups with your buddies but to actually get any major thing accomplished you would need a portion of the players this clan has. I'm not saying Denmark 2 has some major tyranny going on. I didn't see any serious cases of this happening, but this is a look at the negative effects this could have on it's population. I did however see some flaming in the National chat and an "exile" of a player because he attacked a players trade vessel from another nation that the clan was "allied to". I don't know who was in the right or wrong about this argument but that was pretty much the final straw I had for this nation. You might be in the clan I am talking about and think I'm some kind of idiot but once your leaders start settling in the idea that they control who not just your clan's, but your entire nation's allies, attack targets, and conquest targets are, you have a major problem. Denmark 2's conquest game was pretty weak too I gotta say. Just 1 Port captured in the past week (a freebie when no brits come), and probably ~2 the week before that? Not going to say that they don't have conquering potential, but I gotta put the blame on that clan because I'm pretty sure they were enforcing an alliance to Sweden and possibly other . I don't even understand why you would enforce an alliance that does nothing for your nation. You have 0 enemies you are warring with, and 0 nations that are actually going to bother with your current towns besides Sweden, and Sweden is arguably the weakest nation on both USA PVP servers. (Too weak to attack your ports, and too weak to defend your ports). Sums up my experience. Sorry for getting a bit ranty at the end but I feel like I wasted my time and wanted to warn people planning to do the same as me. If you're on Denmark 2 and were getting sick of anything I mentioned, try Denmark 1 before going pirate or quitting.
