1. Hire officers to improve gunnery, sailing, repair.

    The more success I have, the easier (cheaper) it should be to hire officers that will improve performance. Gunners and gunners mates should improve the reload speed and accuracy. Sailing master should improve navigation (more later) and during battle handle the sails so you can focus on the battle instead of the sails. Bosun should improve crew performance and morale. Carpenter and sail maker should improve repairs.

 

2. Map and navigation should be more informative. I should be able to see a rough (dead reckoning) position on the map. As I improve and purchase a sextant and chronometer, I should get better positions. If I hire a good sailing master, I should get almost a fine position.

 

3. Send laden captured ships to friendly port. I should be able to use a hired midshipman and a portion of my crew to send a laden ship to any friendly port to await disposition. Of course, the longer they are at sea the higher the chance they may be taken.

 

4. Need xp adds for time at sea, sailing into unvisited ports, and other actions, not just for battles.

 

BIG ONE: My XP transfers between PVP and PVE, good. But, I also want my ships and gold available.

Last one - Way to easy to exploit - and how do you deal with the fact that some ports have different owners on different servers?

How is it an exploit if it is a gameplay mechanic? There are only so many ports you can visit, and if someone sails all day and doesnt fight then that their own choice.
