Reki Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 I think those info, which contains in SRL, is useless because of few reasons: Place: it always somewhere far from you Time: its always to late Use: You never know how many enemy was spotted. Just one random name But what you say? Poll removed by mod team for being non-essential to the discussion. 1
Bubba Smith Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 I agree, so far they haven't helped me at all.
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 It is a placeholder. I can imagine a few mechanics coming up in the future where they become useful. Let's wait. I usually read them to check any players around the flotilla área of intervention, seldom share them on chat though. 2
Marquiz Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Yep, this is good idea, but its need to be reworked for something more useful.
FuzzyInch Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 they never work for me"... i hold my mouse over them in chat and nothing happens.... no pop up like other chat stuff thats posted in yellow by players
Aubrey Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 They are a nice idea, however I do not see them being useful just one bit. "Player X has been sighted here 17 minutes ago" uhm...ok, then he might have crossed half the Caribbean by now, logged off or whatever. So...what?
Cossack Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I just don't find them useful. By the time you get to a location the player would be long gone.

admin Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 In this form they were useful when online was low in early testing - and shown to people that something was happening in the world:) Original design was to show 3 ships with the most expensive cargo and their last known location, but again no-one was carrying expensive cargo those days (well perhaps coffers of tea and muskets)
GrapeShot Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 My crew found a use for them in the ship's head. 1
endersTank Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Include the nationality of the sited player and it might not be utterly useless... The start of a good idea, something there definitely worth exploring but currently worth exactly bupkus I think. 2
FuzzyInch Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 anyone else NOT able to read the letters when they are posted into Chat? the pop up comes for all other items posted... only the ships report does not work for me.
Xoosch Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Did you ever use ship report letter info? nope the are like the most useless things ever.... Captain x sailing in Ship near soso 117min ago..... yeah.....

For example like this: GBR begin attack on port X 1 min ago. It could make SRL priceless.
ssolos Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 anyone else NOT able to read the letters when they are posted into Chat? the pop up comes for all other items posted... only the ships report does not work for me. I do often, i think its because the chat window is to small, so make it bigger.
mouse of war Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Yes, I always use them - as soon as I get one I drop everything and rush across the map to chase 'em down - I haven't managed to catch any yet but I'm sure it's just a matter of time 1

If the player deletes the letter after sending to chat, you ( everyone ) cannot see the pop up.
VehoNex Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I love when I'm up by North Carolina and I get informed of a player in the south Caribbean being seen near random port #42 2 hours ago in a basic cutter. Thanks Ship Report letter!
Lisa-Azra Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I thought they were a 'booby' prize. Yes, you fought well and you deserve a reward and tonight you get...................... a ship's letter hahahaha better luck next time I leave them on the wreck and watch them sink to the depths with such glee.
Reki Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 Special for you devs should make love letters instead of report one
Richard VonKleek Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 I can see this as a mechanic to build into future updates and mechanics, but it lacks a few bits of important information that would have been logged in real life. 1- direction of travel 2- speed of observed ship ...just to name some.
Tretton Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 I told this new guy never to bother with posting the ship report letters, and ofc, that one time the ship report letter actually revealed the recent position of the danish invasion fleet. Oh, the irony.
Oliver Tressillian Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Ahoy ye Sailors I have seen them and read them did not really know what it meant tho, but now I know better. A better use for them, might be when all is said and done that they provide us with information of where the Spanish treasure fleet currently is at or might be heading too, so that me and my clan mates can intercept it and way lay it and make off with the special treasures and Silver they would be carrying, which just might help me finish my First Rate, I'm busy building or help me too reach that next rank due to the exp gained and so or direct me to the buried treasure of one said Capt Flint or who ever. Yours truly Sir Oliver TressillianMay yer anchor be tight, yer cork be loose, yer rum be spiced, yer compass be true and may yer guns be loaded for the problem is not the problem, the problem is yer attitude about the problem.
