Poe Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Do trade ships go full speed regardless of burden?
jodgi Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 But it might change. Though, if we are to believe those in the know, it wouldn't slow them down much.
SirLeitet Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Would've been great if the AI didn't get increased speed turning and reload compared to the player ships also.

Hexxus674 Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Right now they do go the same speed loaded and empty. But I do believe that the current trade ships are just placeholders. A warship and a trade ship were designed with two very different hull shapes and scantlings. (size, thickness, and layout of the structural components of the hull)
Admiral 8Q Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Good thought. I think a ship, any ship whether a.i or a player's should lose some speed and maneuverability while in a battle based on the amount of cargo in the hold.
Ghroznak Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Well, more cargo on a ship would mean more mass. More mass would mean it requires more energy to gain speed. The energy you get out of the sails is going to be the same whether it's empty or fully laden, so the result would be slower acceleration if fully laden compared to empty. Also, on the opposite end, more mass means more energy to reduce speed, which in turn translates into slower deceleration, or practically speaking you will use a longer distance to come to a full stop when fully laden compared to empty. Also, changing direction of a laden ship compared to a full one would require more energy as well, thus translating into larger turn radius. I don't think it's implemented, but I assume that is what it will result in if they implement it.
Poe Posted February 8, 2016 Author Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) I thought more boat in the water would make it slower... Regardless, I have non trade ships tricked out with speed fittings and I can't pirate alone. If I don't have another pirate with me its not gonna happen (we alternate tagging until we can close). Just wondering if its intent or design that as a pirate, I cant catch what my normal prey would be. Edited February 8, 2016 by Poe

It takes some time to do but i do it solo and all i do is hunt player ships or trade ships. It all starts with the OW attack setup. I may have missed something but you should be able to take em pretty easy.
Poe Posted February 9, 2016 Author Posted February 9, 2016 Pirate captain Poe ! I hunt trade ships all the time without problem. You should make some vids on how you are doing it then, it may very well be that easy and I am just missing something.
Mrdoomed Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 You should make some vids on how you are doing it then, it may very well be that easy and I am just missing something. This is my strategy. I dont know how good players do it or pro players do it but this works for me. First i try and match the size of the ships im hunting with the ships im in but in my snow ill take on small or large. On the OW map look for target ships fighting the wind so you have the advantage on attacks. Then time your attack so when the timer reaches 0 you are right on top of the ship. ( that is important ) then you should start right next to the trader ship. You can get at least 2 rounds of chain shot into him right from the start. Then just run him down. It takes about 20 or 30 minutes from start to finish but its worth it. I see you online all the time. Let me know if this helps at all. Maybe if we are both close in OW when im on we can team up.
Poe Posted February 9, 2016 Author Posted February 9, 2016 Sounds good, I'll look for ya next time I on and about.
