could we freeze one only deck ?
Puchu replied to HetzyBunny's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
It would be great to be able to load and fire the broadsides individually. I am sure that would create all kinds of interface issues, but i would love those options One option could be to go Fx- opens menue for gun deck one Then you get 4 options bound to nr 1-6 1 - Load ball 2 - Load chain 3 - load grape 4 - load double shot 5 - load double charge 6 - unman the guns -
Really, i never expected this, but I LOVE the removal of the global and battle chat. It makes the game soo much better because you dont have to deal with all the emotional baggage that gets thrown at you. Or that you throw at others to be honest. It's just "deal with it". Fighting to me now feels like: "Hey friend, this is nothing personal, but this is war and you happen to be on the other side, so let's get it on." Its much more gentleman like for me. I love it!

The pirate nation is the best one for getting instant pvp. You dont even have to sail anywhere to get it. Just log on, jump to baracoa and the whole world does the sailing for you. If you want big fights sail out from baracoa. If you want small fights sail out from mortimer town. You have the greatest luxury of all. You dont have to waste your time sailing to anyone because everyone is coming to you. You also allways see how many of the enemy are there and you mostly can get reinforcements right from the port. No other nation has that luxury. When the danes go to baracoa, you see how many they are and what ships they are in. So you can adjust your forces accordingly. If you see 3rdrates you can come in 1strates. if you see 5 players you can go with 8. You can pick what fights you take. Everyone else is stuck with what they sail there. If you dont use that to your advantage and just crush the enemys at baracoa i cant help you. Get your friends together, look what the enemy setup is and attack them in larger force. You can even catch them from 2 sides, from the north and the south, so you guarantee you have the wind. Listen to Mr.Gipps and players that are as good as him. They can show you what to do and how to beat the danes. You have all the advantages. I am trying to make you see how blessed you are. If i had a nation changer, i would immediately go pirate, the Baracoa situation would be just perfect for me since i hate sailing on the ow and i love fighting. You pirates have the greatest location ever. Use it to your advantage and enjoy the enemies melt like flies. -
There is one more thing which i am curious about. Since when you rake the enemy during their tack, you are in their wind shadow. So if the enemy reverses the tack, you have little way to prevent overshooting. The wind shadow is not only slowing you down when you want to speed up, it's also preventing you from slowing down intentionally. So keeping behind someone through the tack is harder. Overall for me it means that: if you give up the wind for a rake, you better make it worth it, because in almost 100% of the cases its better to just keep the wind if you have it.

@jodgi mast sniping got way harder, due to the ínaccuracy of single shots. To compensate for that people can put on sights. but if they do, they dont put on other mods. and its still harder. It used to be that the mastes are basically the one spot on the ship that is damageable from every angle. While that being still the case, you can protect vs it by not getting mastraked, and if you do, you can to to even half sails or even slow, to prevent a lot of the damage. I am not saying its a complete protection, but nothing ever gets completely protected. There is just something you can do. Single shot mast sniping has become way harder due to the inaccuracy. Something along the lines of Turpos' mast hit accuracy just isnt possible anymore. At least thats my experience now. It might change when we have more data. I mostly like the windshaddow. It is because it becomes really hard to follow someone through the tack, rake them and then speed away, which is what doran allways did to me It is because when you tack, ofc you will get raked, but the enemy will be immediately in your wind shadow and you will be behind them for a counterrake and you will get in 2 rakes, because the enemy has to tack. You know the game. Basically for every rake from downwind then the enemy is tacking you will recieve 2 rakes in the following or 1 broadside and a rake, depending on what you will do. But the most important part is that you will be slower with your tack than the enemy because you are going into the tack with less energy due to the windshadow. Again this is from limited experience with the new mechanics. We will see how it all plays out.

It's been a very long time since I said this. Actually I might have never said this before: I really really like all the changes you made in this patch! The removal of global chat is great! The game in general is much more relaxed because of it. Also the Nation chat is more active and there is way more helpfull stuff and no flaming, since you are talking to allys. The removal of battle chat is also great! I dont get bad comments. If the player really played well i can just take the time and message him/her in private. Its really nice that now you can actually do something to protect your masts. And the wind shadow really adds another level to duels and fleet fights. Overall i really like the changes so this is maybe the first ever "Well done admin" Enjoy it and dont mess it up again

I fully aggree wit your first post Freddy! Read jodgis forum signature, which is a quote of admin. It's been there for 5 years and is still 100% up to date.

Wow, you are shaking things up! Let's see how this all affects the gameplay. I really cant tell right now how all this will affect the game. But if it makes people fight more and run less, i am allways for the changes

I 'm playing games precisely to NOT have real life!

Well hard work is called hard work because its hard to do For some its harder to afk sail than to fight. For me for example... i am allways poor because i cant be bothered to sail stupid reps to lt.... and i get poor just by using reps. Its actually true.... So for the balance... things that just make things better are bad for a game. If the 50%hp buff would be balanced out with other things, then it would be fine.

yes this game is not made for me

People with the best ships spend a lot of time and money to get them. That is true. But once they have them, they almost dont ever loose them again. And I never said you will get richer than traders, I just said you will get richer than the ones that fight in worse ships. Because the ones that fight in worse ships will get poor, since they are most of the time just plain and simply outmatched. I love every unexperienced trader that sails his amazing ships into battle, since he will probably get crushed by experienced pvpers in equal ships. But often the ship quality makes so much of a difference that an inexperienced trader can just win vs an experienced pvp player, just because his ship and mods are so much better. I am saying that good ships rarely die. And that the game is a "winner takes it all" environment. Im just doing that to explain why 3cm of thickness matter so much. I personally hate hate hate the concept that there are things in this game that are straight up upgrades to other things. I've proposed the "sidegrades" thought 5 years ago, but it never got into the game since the devs prefered to focus on the grind, rather than on versatile gameplay, because the grind is what keeps players playing. At least thats the thought process behind it. But yes, we can focus back on the patch now. I dont know how the thickness changes will affect the overall combat behavior. The way i see it: If you get a close upwind tag on someone, he is dead. And if masts go down so fast, then what already is a very very good strat will become even better.

Well, there are some significant design elements that you have to take into consideration though. This game has a very unnique way of doing things. One of them is: Some things are just simply straight up better than others. I allways considered this to be a horrible thing, but that's how it is. A Naval clock is just simply better than a sextant. Thats how it is. Same goes for port upgrades and woods and so on. So if your ship can be just straight up better than the ship of others, in even fights, you will just straight up win. But you wont win like 50% of the times, but (unless you are just bad) you will win almost 100% of the times. So if you fight in great ships you almost never loose them. That is bad for the game. The reason being: People make money and it doesnt disappear. It just accumulates, since people dont loose their great ships. So if you are someone who sails bad ships, you will sink way more often and you will become poor as a result. If you sail strong ships, you will become rich, since you allways have the advantage by default. Basically it's like this: Get a good ship and it becomes a money printing machine untill you make a significant mistake. That's why it is so important to squeeze the last bits of thickness out of something, because 1cm of thickness will mean the difference between killing the good enemy ship and taking all the profit, vs loosing your own ship and loosing hours and hours of work. That's one ... lets call it "feature" ... of the game. It's "winner takes it all". So everything that just gives you a straight advantage is crucial since it decides if you take it all or loose it all.

Frosty, what mods did you use? I think most of you experience is dependent on the fact that you used old meta mods. Swap out hull mods for mast mods and you will probably see a big change. look at it like this: If you go full hull mods, you wont be penetrable, but your masts will die like nothing. So you will get demasted and slowly raked to death. If you put mast mods on, you will take hull damage again, but you will be at least able to sail. So yes, we need to adjust our thinking to the penetration, especially regarding masts. I am very sure this will shake up the mod usage, we will adapt and you will have to pick your poison, which i love! There is one thing though with i would love to point out: It is really hard to find out if someone has mast mods or not. For hull you can at least see how much damage you are doing and how much your shots are bouncing. For masts, you have no clue. That worries me, since going for masts basically is a shot in the dark. I would love some mast hp bar or something that makes me know if the enemy has mast mods or not. It might also be part of the gamble. Go for masts and you dont know if it will work. go for hull and you know what you are getting. Maybe a risk/reward thing. Masts = high risk of being completely useless due to mods but if it works its amazing. Hull = wysiwyg. Safe but possibly not as effective. You can also try to make an educated guess about mast mods when shooting hull. The less you pen, the more likely it is that they are running mast mods. Basically: the more you know the standard behaviors of the cannon balls and the pen, the more you can judge what to do. So yes, i like it. it brings some real deduction skills into the game.
