I am a naval pipe-welder, i have worked on fishing boats in New Bedford MA, Point Judith RI, Shipyards in East Boston Ma, and naval MSC, NOAA, and various transport ships at Detyen's Shipyard in Charleston SC.

Recently i have been out on commercial fishing trips with none other than the living legend swordfishing Captain Larry Horn on the 37 ft shark hunting boat the "Bonsai" which was made reknown by now deceased legend Captain Mac. for those of you unfamiliar with these men or the boat- look them up. They are known all along the East Coast as some of the craziest and innovative Captains of our time.

I will add pictures, videos and even share some stories.

I am really looking forward to this game because i have been fascinated by maritime history since my childhood and is the reason for my career path. By the time i was in 7th grade I had read nearly all of Joseph Conrad's books, and as a youth I went sailing on a number of boats out of Newport, RI. I would be honored to become an Alpha tester and look forward to seeing you on the high seas!

My profile picture is of Drydock #1 at Detyen's Shipyard built in 1901 and still used to this day.

  1. http://www.shpountz.com/gb/navigation.php?procedure=11& This site has a lot of good information and helpful pictures
  2. This is how a schooner should run: Ineffective? Would be nice to see implemented ingame. *Jib sail would be trimmed like that of aft rig
  3. Tbh advertising the games they previously worked on could hurt more than help. WoT and WoWP are considered a joke in many circles. And STALKER- wasnt that the same studio that made 7.62 and Marauder? The same studio that failed and went under?.... hardly good advertising. Although the simple signature with picture and a link is good.
  4. I want my captain to be a yelling s.o.b chewing out his crew with witty yet mildly insulting remarks with a lot of curse words... like a real captain would xD
  5. Ahhh okay. That makes, the numbers represent actual weight to buoyancy ratio? So is it possible to order your men to deep six as much as they can in order to lighten the ship?
  6. Hit points for the 4 sides makes sense but the overall health bar on top doesnt, it seems redundant- is there a reason for it? The video was to illustrate that rigging and the bowsprits werent 'solid'. And they didnt catch the other masts and rigging of the other ship, are you saying this has been fixed? If not then that maybe a reason for health bars as i mention: a lack of proper damagemodels
  7. Hmm... that actually sounds prettpy neat. I gueas id have to play to see how it works. It works well?
  8. "The Mammoth" (1813) HMS Flying Fish (1806)- ex "Revenge" (built in 1805) the plans were used for the Shamrock Class ( Bramble, Holly, Juniper, Misletoe, Thistle, Shamrock- built in bermuda 1808-9) Royal Navy Turns out a lot of three masters were built and many two masters were converted. The confusion may lie in that the Royal Navy classed schooners as 'ship sloops' or 'sloops of war' also three masted Bermuda sloops can be considered as schooners as they had the same hull design and sails as the Baltimore Clipper schooners. *will add ship plans as soon as i recieve the copies of them*
  9. Personally i think the hitpoint concept is stupid. Its outdated and obsolete and doesnt require a proper damage models system. Look at the games coming out now like War Thunder, absolutely no hitpoint system whatsoever and its freakin awesome. You ram, you die too. (Yes planes are not ships but both require wind) and hitpoints are becoming a thing of the past. Ships dont need em either.
  10. So maybe not 'call' them, but in such conditions of tacking or jibing maneuvering etc, the free hands who arent loading possibly automatically help with sails. I havent played the game because im not a tester so i dont know exactly, there are "sailing" and "gunnery" commands correct? But in a battle with say a cutter vs a sloop the cutter would want to use its sailing abilities to maneuver and youd constantly be switching between the commands. Now is there a penalty to gun reloading to constantly be switching from "sailing" to "gunnery"? You understand my concern? Its along the same lines as guns on one side not doing anything. Also, only so many men can load one cannon at a time. From my sailing exoeriences on working ships, you are constantly on the move doing something and helping your comrades. Obviously a cannon crew on the lower decks arent going to run up to trim sone sails but the deck gunners would constantly be on the move
  11. From what ive seen so far there needs to be a focus on actually making rigging and masts 'solid'. If two ships collide, masts and rigging should get caught against eachother and snap or have some effect at all. So before talking about smash smash get these roblems solved otherwise smash smash wont be possible. Also ramming or colliding ought to damage both ships and possible entangle them. Get the physics of ship rigging and masts actually modelled in as a part of the ship- not just aesthetics and the colliding or ramming will be freakin badass
  12. How does actual sailing work when you are constantly going from sailing commands to gunnery commands while in battle? For example if your crew on port just fired and you give a command to bring her up to close haul to gain distance and better firing position will the crew manning the guns that just fired be reloading while the starboard gunners man the sails?
  13. awesome thanks, didnt realize the time frame. im going to call some maritime museums and library's and see what i can find, hopefully they will be able to send me some good stuff. im really fascinated by the smaller and more agile ships. although i reckon there wont be much whaling ingame so it makes for a narrow search xD it seems that there are alot of ships that got refitted, at one time they may have been a schooner or a sloop and then guns added and were rigged different etc and became brigs or ships of the line. so will ships need the ship plans for all retro fits also?
