Not if they are fighting other lower level ships. And must human controlled small ships run carronades anyways.
-
Just did another fight, me in a Teak Constitution against an AI Essex. Guns penetrated when the ships showed flat side, and did not penetrate when angled. That's both ways. Penetration seems to be working fine for the larger guns. The concern was for smaller ones.

Please read my post again. The 50% pen rate was my 18lb longs against a player constitution. Which I'm not complaining about at all. But a different battle than what the screenshot is from. That screenshot is from MY constitution fighting 2 navy brigs. My shots against the navy brigs mostly penetrated. 1 24lb long failed to penetrate a navy brig as you mentioned. But look at their 6lb guns penetrating the live oak Constitution. THAT is what I'm concerned about. I was not aware the shot log was outdated.

After playing more, I'm thinking the 6 and 9 lb long guns might be the only ones that are bugged. Fought a player Connie in my Essex yesterday and his armor worked fine against me. 18lb longs only had about 50% penetration and did 300ish damage per broadside. 12lb longs had maybe 33% penetration. Range was relatively close 400 meters or so for most broadsides so I'd say these penetration values are reasonable. His 24lb guns did good damage and his weather deck 42 carronade punched right through, but that's expected. When I capped him, I discovered he was teak, which would have helped him bounce a few. HOWEVER, doing some lower level missions in my Live Oak Constitution I felt I was made of paper. I did an M&C mission against 2 navy brigs. Here's the screenshot of the first exchange: http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/280722393134538758/580CF48C7A92F18B7E18B27C403502B145DA525B/ Note the number of shots that penetrated from 6lb longs against a live oak constitution. Range was about 300-500 meters depending on the ship. I will also note the broadside I fired in the picture was enough to sink that navybrig due to leaks. However I did not get the kill for it despite it being a mission.

The more I play, the more I like the new AI. However I'm still concerned with new players and would still like penetration to be reduced a bit, especially for smaller calibers.

Will do, will try tonight. Thank you.

Yes, that is still working. Angling still works in our testing.

If a 10% bounce chance was removed, then another bug was created. Please check it. A friend and I dueled each other in Belle Poule's (well armored ship) last night. We started at close range (duel start range) and increased that range. Even at ranges where a large number of shots missed due to dispersion, the shots that hit almost always penetrated. We could not distinguish a difference between penetration values of the 12lb longs vs 6lb longs. The both penetrated the same (a lot). Again, please check the code as this now negates the need for armor whatsoever.

No, they are not. They are quitting. Here is my proof: http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/280722393127442581/33DFF169A442626F1F02CCC665745149E4EDAA1C/ US Prime time, 179 people online at PVP2. This is down 100 people from before the patch on an already dying server. Also, look at the chat. I had helped a midshipman who was getting steamrolled in midshipman missions. He was on the verge of quitting and actually mentioned "I probably would have refunded this if you hadn't come helped". Are refunds even possible? How many other new people have been turned away in the last few days due to getting steamrolled by AI? I've mentioned it in other threads that I actually enjoy the new difficulty of AI, but it is not conducive to retaining players.

Penetration has gone up WAY more than 10%. I'm still getting penned by 6 and 9 lb guns at any range in my Belle.

I had more fun last night with AI battles than normal. However I worry about brand new players. This game has a steep learning curve as is and it may be some time before they can take on an AI cutter. Time where they may just quit instead.

If your Connie is live oak, it should have over 7k hit points per side. Your actual armor is thicker too.

Remove 1.5BR anti-gank programming
Lennyo replied to Bach's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
FWIW, I hate gankers and see it as lame. I never saw the fun in getting 10 friends and jumping a ship. However, I feel the 1.5 BR is not effective in solving this. Today, about 10 pirates were ganking ships between Port Royal and Port Morant. They were still able to fight each other to hide in battle screen. If they hit a ship near the middle of the two towns, players in port were unable to help. In one of them, the 1.5 BR limit made it impossible for chase ships to join because some heavies that were closer joined first. So while the Brits outgunned the pirates, the pirates just ran. I appreciate the attempts to reduce ganking, but I feel this one doesn't work. I think a better way is for battle markers to never disappear until all ships have left battle. That way when I see a pirates vs pirates marker, I'll be sure to avoid that area. Or at least know their battle ratings. Ps. I never really saw the fun in this, Renommee was the only ship on the horizon when it tagged us. A lack of Trade ships?

This was addressed by admin in another thread. They are fixing it in the next hot patch. -
Where have all the traders gone?
Lennyo replied to Justme's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Thank you! As for the teleporting issue. I have heard the admin say they are trying to help casual players. A casual player does not have time to sail a ship for an hour to get somewhere when they only play for an hour or so at a time. A friend and I both started playing the game in January. He has less than 100 hours and I have less than 300. Take away teleports and all players like him are gone. I don't even consider 300 hours since January much more than casual.
